Personal injury insurance claims can determine whether or not you live comfortably for the rest of your life.  If the insurance claim is handled right, you can ensure that your future medical bills, lost wages, and pain and suffering will be covered for the rest of your life.

If you have had a personal injury, the best way to determine the severity of the injury is consult your doctor.  Your doctor is the best judge of total disability and/or partial disability claim that you may have.  He will let you know what type of treatment you will need to receive and for how long the treatment will last.  This is important because some treatments may take a few years causing you to miss out on wages you could be earning in work.  The doctors diagnosis will be crucial in determining the duration of you “pain and suffering” that will occur with the injury.

When it is time for a settlement there are two things to consider:

The first consideration is how long are you willing to fight if the offer is under what you were expecting.  The reason I say this is because sometimes litigation can take years before a settlement is reached.  It is not uncommon for someone with serious injuries to wait upwards of a couple years before they have reached a settlement that is favourable for both parties.

The second consideration when dealing with personal injury claims is getting legal representation.  When you look for a lawyer to represent you the commission rates will vary depending on the lawyers experience and knowledge.

You should look for a lawyer who has a history of winning personal injury insurance claims.  These lawyers may take a high percentage; however, it can also mean a much larger settlement.

After discussing the different options with the lawyer, he will advise you whether or not you have a case for a personal injury insurance claim.  One thing that might happen is the insurance companies may try and offer you a quick settlement for your agreement not to sue.  These can sometimes be beneficial; however, oftentimes they are quite low ball offers and are trying to get you to take less money than you otherwise would have received.  Sometimes if you express your interest in staying away from lawyers the offer can be better than what a lawyer would have won.  This is because usually lawyer fees can range in the 40% mark.  So even if you would have received more after a law suit they net benefit its less.

Remember the most important thing about personal injury insurance claims is you should do your research.  Whatever you plan on doing make sure you do your homework and research thoroughly online to see the different options available.
